 Picton is Marlborough's main port town, tucked between mountains and
the sea at the head of Queen
Charlotte Sound.
Less than half an hour from Blenheim by car or Wellington by plane, Picton is also a
stopping point for cruise ships, has extensive marina facilities for pleasure craft and is
the South Island base for the inter-island ferry terminals.
Stroll around the town's cafes, art galleries and souvenir shops, visit
nearby lookouts, secluded beaches or take short native bush walks. For a longer walk or
cycle, try the Queen Charlotte Track or venture into the sounds on a water taxi or cruise
boat.
